Forest Carbon Partnership Facility Readiness Proposal

Uganda has signed an agreement with the World Bank to participate in the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). Uganda is relevant for REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) due to its hotspot biodiversity forests like the Albertine Rift Mountain Forests and the Lowland Rainforests. The fact that Uganda borders quite an inaccessible part of the Congo Basin makes it part of a „cross boundary leakage belt“. Experts believe that the implementation of REDD actions in Uganda can have a positive spill over to DRC and prevent illegal logging. UNIQUE collaborated with the Forest Assessment and Remote Sensing Institute at Gottingen University, Germany, to develop the chapters on reference scenarios and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for the REDD Readiness Preparation Proposal.
- Analyzing existing forest inventory systems and institutional capacity.
- Guiding the development of a reference scenario.
- Outlining options and proposing the design of a monitoring system.
- Participation in REDD+ working group meetings and stakeholder consultations.
