The project “Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation – Forêts Engagées comme Reservoirs de Carbone” (REDD-FORECA) started in 2007 with the objective of supporting the Malagasy Government in developing a REDD+ mechanism, to develop the instruments for carbon quantification and to suggest appropriate approaches for the participation of local communities. The project was financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (now GIZ) and later also by the Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation (IC). UNIQUE was contracted to review the impact of REDD-FORECA and to share the findings through an internal review, documentation of best technical practices and engaging the beneficiaries in improving their public relations (PR).

  • Appraisal and analysis of experiences and lessons learned of the REDD-FORECA partnership.
  • Interview of key participants of the partnership in Germany, Switzerland and Madagascar.
  • Preparation of a synthesis paper (in French) on implementation and technical experiences.
  • Compilation and editing of an international PR brochure (in English) on climate change and REDD.
