Trainee in Agricultural Field (Green House Gas Mitigation) (m/f/d)*

Unique land use GmbH is a leading international consulting firm for sustainable natural resource management. Since our establishment in 1998, we have carried out over 1.000 projects in more than 80 countries. Our headquarters are in Freiburg in Breisgau, in the Southwest of Germany. In addition, we have offices in East Africa, Paraguay, Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan. Our mixed in-house team with more than 60 permanent staff members consists of agricultural and forestry specialists, economists, and data scientists. In addition to our consultancy work, the Unique group invests in forests and manages large FSC certified forests. We are also investment advisor for some of the most innovative funds in the land use and climate space.

For our Agriculture and Rural Development Department, we are recruiting a Trainee with interest in land use and carbon accounting. He/she will work in a highly motivated international team, which develops and supports the implementation of land use projects, including digital solutions for innovative project monitoring approaches, for different private and public sector clients.

Job Description

  • Develop expertise in GHG mitigation technologies in the agriculture sector (crop and livestock)
  • Support carbon project development of major clients in close coordination with the agriculture and the digital solutions team
  • Keep updated on the requirements of the different standards and carbon accounting methodologies and advise the team accordingly.
  • Support the professional management and delivery of high-quality products and services for our clients, including analytical work, quantitative assessments, and drafting of technical reports.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has already an understanding of carbon markets and GHG mitigation measures in the agriculture sector. Relevant international work experience is a strong asset. A keen interest in agricultural development, climate change, socio-economic and environmental issues in developing countries is vital.

  • Master degree (or PhD) in agriculture, , economics, forestry, climate change, sustainability or related fields
  • High degree of initiative and ability to self-manage priorities, deadlines, and complex topics.
  • Sound analytical and quantitative skills
  • Very good communication skills
  • Intercultural team player
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  • Very good knowledge with MS Office
  • English skills are must (minimum level C1) + other languages make the difference.
