The Amazon is adversely impacted by climate change. High levels of deforestation and increasing temperatures threaten ecosystems, local livelihoods, and jeopardize the Amazon’s ability to absorb and store carbon. To support the region, IDB developed a program for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) that finances investments in the bioeconomy. These investments deliver sustainable solutions to reduce the impacts of climate change and strengthen resilience in the Amazon. Unique was hired to support IDB with the elaboration of climate risk and vulnerability assessments at basin and country level. Unique also developed the program’s financial and economic model, the technical assistance budget, and supported IDB with the GCF review process. The program was approved by GCF in October 2021 (FP173).
