Mt. Elgon Projekt für kleinbäuerliche Milch- und Landwirtschaft
Hintergrund
The Livelihoods Fund for family farming (L3F) raised €120 million to demonstrate sustainable food sourcing models, related to cocoa, palm oil, milk, sugar, vanilla, mint and water. Together with Vi Agroforestry, Livelihoods develops the Mt. Elgon agroforestry & sustainable dairy project which involves 30,000 farmers and aims at restoring 20,000 hectares of agriculture land. An innovative partnership with a local milk company ensures the sale of milk produced by the farmers over ten years. The project will implement smart agricultural practices to sustainably increase yield and milk production with crop diversification, cow efficient feeding, watering & breeding. UNIQUE supported the project in particular by developing a multiple benefit monitoring and management information system.
