Evaluation of the More Coffee with Less Water Production Project Vietnam
Background
Coffee is the most important export product in value for Vietnam and supports the livelihoods of over two million people. The Central Highlands are the key growing area for Robusta coffee. Irrigation is necessary due to a pronounced dry season. In public-private partnership, SDC and Nestlé assessed the water footprint of coffee production in the Central Highlands and identified the potential to reduce water use substantially by changing current irrigation practices. Against this background, SDC and Nestlé designed and implemented the project “More coffee with less water” to support the transformation of irrigation practices. The first phase of the project will end in December 2017. UNIQUE was selected to conduct the project evaluation and develop recommendations for the 2nd phase of the project.
