Forest Policy Development and National Forest Inventory Implementation
Background
The advisory services to Ukraine's State Forest Resource Agency provided by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture began in 2016 as part of the existing agricultural policy dialogue with Ukraine. In this context, the consortia Unique-IAK was contracted by GFA to provide technical advice for the national forest inventory (NFI). Because of the war, the original project was extended with the elaboration of a concept and regional test of a remote sensing (RS)-backed NFI as well as a further study to implement a RS-Inventory for the whole of Ukraine. Part of the project was also to support the Ukrainian forestry administration in advancing forest policy and forest policy instruments with a focus on improvement of sustainable forest management.
