Kunene Highland - Carbon Project Feasibility Study
Background
In Africa, pastoral communities in isolated regions, like those in northern Namibia's Kunene Highland landscapes, face high vulnerability to climate change due to their reliance on ecosystem provisioning for livelihoods. Over time, this area has suffered severe degradation from increased droughts and livestock overgrazing. Despite its biodiversity value, community conservancy structures struggle to manage the landscape without alternative conservation-based livelihoods. A private investor is considering investing in a grassland management project by a local non-governmental organization, collaborating with Kunene conservancies to improve grazing, ecosystem restoration, and livelihood benefits. Unique conducted a pre-feasibility screening for a potential carbon project based on proposed activities.
