REDD+ Readiness Preparation Proposal Development
Background
A large portion of Fiji is covered in forest, but many of these forests are degraded and increasingly threatened by agriculture and infrastructure development. Fiji’s national Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) program’s objective is to ensure the country’s development path is sustainable and economic growth can be achieved while safeguarding the forest. Now Fiji would like to become a Participant Country of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), of which the World Bank is trustee. In order to apply for funding from the FCPF, REDD+ countries must prepare a comprehensive proposal that outlines the achievements so far as well as details what needs to be done in order to become REDD+ ‘ready.’ GIZ’s regional office contracted UNIQUE to write this proposal.
Our contribution
- Prepare a series of in-country stakeholder workshops to ensure national ownership of the proposal.
- Review relevant laws, policies and forest governance assessments to identify gaps.
- Develop a stakeholder consultation and participation plan as required by FCPF.
- Assess existing institutions and capacity, highlighting where more capacity support is needed.
- Coordination of elaborating the Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP).
