The Impact of REDD+ Finance
Background
Since 2008, public donors have provided more than USD three billion to developing countries for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+). Up to date there has been no assessment of the effects of this new form of climate finance on forest protection. The Climate and Land Use Alliance (CLUA) brings together a number of large US-American donor foundations that support REDD+. CLUA called for a study that analyzes the intended and unintended effects of REDD + financing to improve the impacts of CLUA financial support moving forward. The study includes a global analysis and seven empirical in-depth case studies in different REDD+ countries. UNIQUE was selected as a key contributor to this study due to extensive expertise in the REDD+ context and resulting analytical capacity.
