Valuation of Woodlots
Background
The non-governmental organization (NGO) Komaza has worked with smallholder farmers establishing woodlots in coastal Kenya since 2008. This NGO planted Eucalyptus and Melia volkensii, a timber specie native to central and coastal Kenya. With harvesting expected to commence soon, Komaza plans to invest in processing facilities for value addition to tree products. To simplify private sector investments in processing facilities and upscaling of operations, the NGO seeks to transfer its assets to a private company. UNIQUE estimated the forestry assets to support the transfer from the NGO to the company.
