Climate Consultancy
Background
The availability of basic forest data is a precondition for the development of climate-adapted forest management strategies. However, this data is often lacking when it comes to small- and medium sized forests in Germany. The objective of the project was to enable forestry cooperatives – in many cases the contact partner of private forest owners – to offer their members advice and services for the development of climate-adapted low-risk forests. A cost-effective inventory system was developed, and knowledge regarding climate-adaptation of forests was provided to forestry cooperatives utilizing consulting tools. UNIQUE was contacted by the University of Freiburg for this project, funded by Waldklimafonds, and cooperated with three project partners: forestry cooperatives from i) Baden-Wuerttemberg, ii) Bavaria and iii) Brandenburg.
