Forest Landscape Restoration
Background
The Bonn Challenge is a global movement launched with a vision to restore 150 million hectares of degraded and deforested land by 2020. The German Government supports a number of countries, including Ethiopia, to accomplish this effort by providing technical and financial assistance. The German Development Agency (GIZ) supports implementation of Ethiopia’s commitment to restore 22 million hectares as part of its contribution to the Bonn Challenge. UNIQUE was contracted to identify the forest landscape restoration options in Ethiopia. The assignment outputs include a spatially explicit assessment of forest landscape restoration options, showing costs and benefits of different options. In addition, UNIQUE was assessing the private sector engagement mechanisms to ensure the options identified are combined with respective finance channels.
