Mainstreaming Carbon Finance
Background
Ethiopia is committed to transforming the country’s economy while achieving a Climate Resilient and Green Economy (CRGE) by 2025. Doubling agricultural production is one of the targets of the Growth & Transformation Program (GTP) while the CRGE vision emphasizes improving natural resource management (soil, water natural vegetation). The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the World Bank in the framework of the second phase of the Sustainable Land Management Program (SLMP 2) is planning to integrate climate change considerations and carbon finance more systematically in its operations. SLMP 2 will focus on two priority areas: 1) Assisted Natural Regeneration and 2) Climate-Smart Agriculture (enhancing soil carbon). UNIQUE is supporting the respective SLMP 2 design by preparing two national-level Programs of Activities (PoA).
