The total area of FSC-certified forests in Germany will increase significantly in the near future. Consequently the availability of FSC-certified roundwood will rise. However, the number of FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certified sawmills in Germany which could process the available raw material into FSC-certified sawn timber stagnates at a comparatively low level. Hence, FSC Germany contracted UNIQUE to conduct a study with the aims to: Improve the participation of German sawmills in the FSC-value chain. Identify options to increase the offer of FSC-certified saw timber in Germany. Improve the understanding of sawmilling industry requirements for a better standing of FSC CoC certification in the sector.
