Public-Private Dialogue in the Forest Sector
Background
Ethiopia’s growth and transformation agenda critically depends on how forest resources are managed to ensure they feed into the bioeconomy. The World Bank is supporting the Government of Ethiopia to increase the public and private investment necessary to achieve sustainable forest sector growth and industrialization. A key part of this support is a forest sector Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) whereby key decision-makers agree on actions to improve the sector investment climate and thereby increase productivity in a sustainable way. UNIQUE was contracted to support the PPD by conducting a sector diagnostics that identifies future gaps between the supply and demand of different forest products. This was then synthesized into position papers that propose key policy and legal measures needed to create an enabling environment for private investors.
