Rwenzori Agroforestry Project
Background
In Kasese and Ntoroko (Rwenzori region, Uganda), smallholder farming landscapes face ongoing land degradation driven by unsustainable cultivation practices (including limited soil and water conservation) and strong pressure on existing tree resources, while communities remain highly vulnerable to climate hazards. The project was implemented locally by CODEA, a Ugandan NGO rooted in the Rwenzori region with experience delivering agroforestry projects. The project was designed to scale climate-smart agroforestry, boundary tree planting, and mixed woodlots with smallholders, increasing carbon sequestration while improving farm management through good agricultural practices.
