Self-Contained Marketing of Timber in the Palatinate Region
Background
Private forest land in the Palatinate is fragmented. The average size owned by a single owner is about 0.1 hectares. The natural conditions are characterised by a high variety of tree species, difficult terrain conditions and a lack of forest roads. In recent years, some forest owners’ associations started activities towards the bundling of timber from various small-scale forest owners. Producer groups were founded for timber marketing and sales. The main objective in the region is to support forest owners’ own initiatives, to strengthen their associations and to support them in the marketing of timber from private forests.
