The Vietnamese-German Development Cooperation is implementing the “Program for the Promotion of Sustainable Utilization and Management of Natural Forest, Processing, Trade and Marketing of Important Forest Products”. A major task of the program is to support the state management agencies in developing technical guidelines and implementing sustainable forest management (SFM) in pilot enterprises. Aspects to be addressed are forest management planning, forest function mapping, reduced impact logging (RIL), monitoring and cost accounting and preparation for FSC-certification. UNIQUE’s advisory services focused on the development and implementation of a monitoring system integrating production, cost accounting and social and environmental aspects.

• Support of forest inventories and operational, economic as well as SFM planning.
• Elaboration of a definition of state-of-the-art silvicultural regimes.
• Manuals for appropriate forest management techniques (harvesting, forest regeneration, restoration).
• Preparation for FSC-certification (interpretation of pre-audit results, avoidance of no-goes, proceedings).
