Upscaling Sustainable Forest Management and Certification
Background
Vietnam has formulated ambitious development goals for its forestry sector. Despite significant progress in conservation and sustainable use, further capacity building is needed to enable the forestry sector to better supply the export-oriented industry with legally and sustainably produced timber. GIZ supports the creation of appropriate frameworks and technical capacity building. This project contributes to forest conservation in Vietnam and in countries of origin timber imports to Vietnam, as well as to sustainable forest management, and transparent timber supply chains. Due to its extensive expertise and on-site presence in Vietnam, UNIQUE was contracted to further develop, implement and scale sustainable business models to convert short rotation plantations into high value timber production.
