Background

The “Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung” (foundation) is the extension and consulting arm of Neumann Coffee Group. With funding from the Belinda and Bill Gates Foundation, USAID and aBi Trust, the foundation implemented the project „Building Coffee Farmers Alliances in Uganda” from 2009 to 2013. The project aimed at improving the quality and productivity of small holder coffee farmers in central Uganda. This was organized through farmer to farmer training, establishment of tiered farmer’s organisations, participation of farmers further along the coffee value chain, and by addressing inequality between men and women at household level. The project is certified with the UTZ standard. HRNS requested UNIQUE to evaluate the performance of the project.
