In South Africa, large-scale land degradation in different biomes negatively impacts key ecosystem services. Restoring degraded landscapes has the potential to contribute to achieving the country’s climate and biodiversity targets. As part of the ReLISA project, financed by the International Climate Initiative, the Endangered Wildlife Trust aims to restore key habitats for biodiversity. ReLISA seeks to leverage private sector investments to restore grassland, thicket, and savanna biomes. Unique was part of the consortium due to its technical expertise and understanding of structuring Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) investment projects.

  • Stocktaking of restoration activities in selected priority areas
  • Scoping and feasibility assessments of NbS investments in thicket, grassland and savannas
  • Development of new and innovative business models
  • Assessment of carbon, water and biodiversity impacts of restoration activities
  • Support the development of a Green Climate Fund concept note
  • Support the development and refining of overall funding strategies for biome-level restoration
