Climate change is not just a global challenge. For Germany’s Southern Black Forest, climate change will entail serious changes in landscape and land use. Areas of considerable importance for nature protection will also be severely affected. The Naturpark Südschwarzwald commissioned UNIQUE to design an “integrated climate change adaptation strategy” within the scope of a research project for the State Institute for Environment, Measurements and Nature Conservation Baden-Württemberg. The potential impacts on regionally important grassland and forest protection areas in the Southern Black Forest were estimated. With the intensive involvement of farmers, municipalities and a project advisory board, a climate adaptation strategy as well as future land use strategies in the area of the Naturpark Südschwarzwald were developed.
- Elaboration of a detailed research design.
- Land use analysis for the area of the Naturpark Südschwarzwald.
- Assessment of the climate change impacts of nature conservation areas.
- Calculation and balancing of climate change impacts on the area of the Naturpark Südschwarzwald.
- Development of recommendations and future scenarios.
