A forest management plan is the central medium-term planning and control tool in public forests in Baden-Württemberg. This document outlines the planned harvesting operations, thinning and regeneration measures for the next 10 years according to inventory results. The management plan aims to integrate economic, social and environmental concerns such as timber production, tourism and environmental protection. Freiburg’s Regierungspräsidium commissioned the elaboration of management plans for 7,000 hectares of state and municipal forest in the Black Forest and Upper Swabia. UNIQUE was assigned to propose the delineation of small forest reserves, map protected beech forests and ensure the management plan meets Natura2000 biodiversity standards. UNIQUE also collected specific data for the planned “Northern Black Forest National Park”.
- Site inspection with responsible foresters to assess previous management and accounting.
- Delineation of stands and update stand data.
- Gathering of ecological data like woody debris, mature stands and ground vegetation for Natura2000.
- Coordination of operative and ecological planning for the next 10 years.
- Quality management for map creation.
- Data input, validation and approval.
- Structuring and collecting of data in the area of the planned National Park.
