The forestry section of a Mozambican enterprise owns harvesting licenses in natural forests as well as 3,000ha of Eucalyptus plantations. The harvested wood is partly processed to sawn timber and partly treated for the use as poles. The forest itself is also used intensely by smallholders to collect fuel wood and grow crops.
UNIQUE was contracted to conduct an inventory, produce new maps and – if necessary – suggest possibilities for silvicultural improvement.

  • Sample plot inventory using a 500*200m grid attempting a +/-10% accuracy of volume.
  • Data input, aggregation and interpretation.
  • Stratification of the plantations into land use classes and drawing of new maps.
  • Formulation of silvicultural and strategic recommendations.
  • Presentation and discussion of results with the client.
