Sustainable Forest Management in Hunan

L’Agence Française de Développement (AFD) is planning to provide a concessional loan to the Chinese Ministry of Finance for €30 million to support sustainable forest management. In particular the rehabilitation of 10,100 ha of bamboo forests and the establishment of 6,600 ha of new forests in Hunan Province will be supported. The project will also support capacity building to shift from expanding forest cover to enhance the multiple services and products from existing forests. Furthermore, the introduction of forest certification schemes such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and carbon standards will be supported. Based on our in-depth experience with forest loan implementation procedures in China, UNIQUE forestry and land use was contracted to strengthen the project planning capacity of the Hunan Forestry Department.
