Forests cover about five percent of Kazakhstan’s total territory. The government of the Central Asian republic strives to increase the total forest area in the future. To encourage private entrepreneurs who are potentially interested in afforestation activities, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Economy supports forest investors with a grant covering up to fifty percent of the initial costs. With support from the EU, the Forestry and Hunting Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture has developed the FLERMONECA program to support this initiative. UNIQUE was assigned to support the responsible governmental committee to successfully implement this process.
