The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development supports the development of Green Climate Fund (GCF) proposals in selected partner countries through the Climate Finance Readiness program. The Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMD) identified wood based bio-energy development as an important element for transformational change in the energy sector. Improving the productivity and sustainability of the bio-energy sector would contribute significantly to the nationally determined climate change mitigation. UNIQUE assessed the economic pre-feasibility and alignment with the GCF investment criteria, refined the project idea together with the MEMD, and supported the development of a concept note to the GCF.

  • Pre-feasibility study on sustainable wood based bio-energy development.
  • Design of the institutional framework for project implementation.
  • Identification of finance requirements and the investment structure.
  • Support to GCF concept note preparation.
