Detailed Mapping of Dairy Value Chain

Dairy products from the Kyrgyz Republic have a good reputation as these are mainly based on pasture-farming system. This, together with the accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Eurasian Economic Union in 2015, is an opportunity for the sector to increase production and expand export markets. However, current low productivity, caused by poor animal nutrition, high disease incidences and poor animal management hinder the sector from reaching full potential. The World Bank’s Integrated Dairy Improvement Project was designed to increase overall milk production and improve milk quality. This should be achieved by improving public and private services in the sector, enhancing on-farm productivity and promoting farm-level investments. UNIQUE was contracted to conduct a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the dairy value chains in Issyk Kul region.
