Addressing deforestation and forest degradation is an important strategy within Sudan’s efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Sudan has, in this context, undertaken to develop a REDD+ program. Private sector actors play a key role in agricultural and forestry sectors – which are drivers of deforestation – and therefore need to be engaged in order for REDD+ in Sudan to succeed. UNIQUE developed a private sector engagement strategy for the REDD+ framework in Sudan.

  • Assess Sudan’s private sector, and the laws and regulations governing it.
  • Map relevant stakeholders, including private sector actors and others.
  • Prioritize actor engagement and the selection of REDD+ engagement activities.
  • Validate REDD+ private sector engagement through stakeholder workshop.
  • Elaborate private sector framework.
