In the mountainous regions of Kyrgyzstan, land degradation is an important issue which has serious implications of rural livelihoods. The Toktogul hydro power dam has exacerbated land degradation issues in the surrounding watershed. In response, the World Bank RESILAND resilient landscapes regional program in Central Asia aims to enhance capacity building in landscape restoration. The objective of the project was to perform a national-level analysis of feasible integrated landscape restoration and catchment area management measures to reduce sediment inflows at the Toktogul reservoir. A Restoration Opportunities Assessment Methodology (ROAM) exercise was conducted, which included a valuation of landscape restoration. UNIQUE was selected for this assignment due to our strong regional experience and knowledge regarding restoration measures.
