Monitoring System for Climate Smart Agriculture
Climate smart agriculture (CSA) represents a great opportunity to profitably improve the sustainability of agriculture. Nonetheless, financing from local banks for agricultural producers generally, and CSA specifically, remains limited. The Brazil’s Low-Carbon Agriculture (ABC) Plan has channeled billions of dollars to nominal CSA projects via local banks. However, banks’ ability to track spending under the Program is limited. In this context, the International Finance Corporation hired UNIQUE to assess monitoring systems for CSA. The purpose of the assessment is to understand bank’s monitoring capacity, estimate the current CSA impact of the ABC Plan, and recommend new monitoring systems to the IFC.
- Assessment of ABC Plan and CSA impact
- Analysis of publicly available datasets on bank spending under ABC Plan
- Deep dive into one financial institution’s monitoring capacity
- Recommend improvements to monitoring systems
