Feasibility Study for the One Mara Carbon Project

The Greater Mara Ecosystem with its charismatic African wildlife and Maasai herders is threatened by fragmentation and degradation due to unsustainable grazing practices. The formation of conservancies has emerged as a solution to unite landowners and decrease fragmentation to allow free wildlife movement. However, there is only varying success in the implementation of grazing plans and improved land management. The One Mara Carbon Project (OMCP) intends to utilize the voluntary carbon market to improve land management with adequate grazing plans to sequester soil carbon and benefit local communities. Conservation International plans to invest into the development of the OMCP and commissioned Unique to assess the feasibility of the OMCP.
