In Africa, pastoral communities in isolated regions, like those in northern Namibia’s Kunene Highland landscapes, face high vulnerability to climate change due to their reliance on ecosystem provisioning for livelihoods. Over time, this area has suffered severe degradation from increased droughts and livestock overgrazing. Despite its biodiversity value, existing community conservancy structures struggle to manage the landscape without alternative conservation-based livelihoods. TNBES is considering investing in a grassland management project by local non-governmental organization Conserve, collaborating with Kunene conservancies to improve grazing, ecosystem restoration, and livelihood benefits. Unique conducted a pre-feasibility screening for a potential carbon project based on proposed activities.

  • Assessment of the proposed project activities and review of the rationale for a carbon project
  • Identification of the optimal standard and accounting methodology for the project’s activities
  • Recommendation of the optimal soil carbon model and quantification approach for the project
  • Carbon potential evaluation
