The city of Freiburg is planning the new Dietenbach district with 7,000 apartments for 16,000 people. The aim is to create a model district for ecological sustainability, inclusion and affordable housing. Regionally sourced and processed timber is to be preferred as a building material as this supports the climate goals of the city and requires little grey energy. The project “Timber construction on a district scale – Phase 2” aimed to quantitatively and qualitatively demonstrate the climate protection effects of timber construction. The marketability of CO2 certificates was evaluated in the context of timber construction. Together with the regional building authority and regional companies, Unique was commissioned to support the city in determining the climate protection effects of timber construction and the role of CO2 certificates.
- Creation of timber construction scenarios and CO2 sink potential in the context of climate targets
- Integration of value chains and sector delimitations in the determination of sink performance
- Conducting expert interviews, online surveys, presentation of results and moderation
