Insetting and Offsetting Options in Commercial Agriculture

Agricultural carbon initiatives face evolving programs and standards, as well as different monetization pathways through either “offsetting” (carbon credit production) or “insetting” (scope 3 interventions). A commodity trader, in collaboration with a private agricultural company, explored these monetization opportunities in Brazil and Colombia using the VM0042 methodology under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) or the future Scope 3 Standard (S3S). Unique assessed key design aspects of different suitable agricultural interventions. We also provided background and decision support for the company’s strategy on the most appropriate monetization pathway.
