About 3.5 million rural Kyrgyz depend on pasture-raised livestock for their livelihoods in extensive grazing systems. These grazing systems have low productivity but high GHG emissions. The livestock sector have been identified as having high potential for GHG mitigation and private sector participation while supporting sustainable and climate resilient development of rural population. GIZ supported a scoping study for a livestock sector Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMAs) to transform the beef sub-sector towards a low emissions pathway. The NAMA Facility supports countries demonstrating leadership on tackling climate change by implementing transformational NAMAs. In collaboration with GIZ and Kyrgyzstan stakeholders, UNIQUE prepared a full application for the NAMA Facility.
- Assessment and filling remaining knowledge gaps for proposal development.
- National stakeholder consultations & moderation of roundtable with NAMA stakeholders.
- Preparation of all relevant NAMA Facility application documents.
