Kommunale Bewirtschaftung von Walnusswäldern und Weiden

The southern Kyrgyz region is marked by poverty, out-migration of young people and limited employment opportunities. Overgrazing of livestock in biodiverse-rich forests and meadows have led to the degradation of ecosystems and natural resources for local people. In addressing such difficulties, GIZ commissioned UNIQUE to support the project on biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction through implementing community-based management of walnut forests and pastures. The main goal of the project was to promote and expand the sustainable management of forests and pastures in other regions in Southern Kyrgyzstan. UNIQUE was selected due to its experience in similar land use projects in the region, and proven ability to deliver quality results in consolidation with local partners and actors.
