With 870 million people still chronically undernourished and concerns over the implications of growing population combined with rising developing country incomes, the role of agriculture in sustainable development has again come to the fore. Developing countries work to define low-emissions development pathways and specific mitigation actions suited to their national conditions. In this context the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) with their Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) contracted UNIQUE to provide a global review of national integrated mitigation planning in agriculture.

  • Reviewing low-emission development strategies with focus on agriculture.
  • Tracking developments on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) in agriculture.
  • Analysis of country case studies on multiple objectives of agricultural activity aligned with mitigation.
  • Assessment of existing planning approaches and tools to identify low-emissions strategies.
  • Assessment of existing planning approaches and tools to identify agricultural mitigation actions.
