The Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU) is a regional farmer organization with 16 member institutions in 12 countries. SACAU implements advocacy and capacity building in partnership with GIZ. The organization is currently engaged in the development of a climate change program to extend climate finance and climate resilient agricultural activities to African smallholder farmers. This process will deliver climate finance for implementation activities on the ground with selected farmer organizations and integrate best practices into SACAU’s advocacy and outreach actions. UNIQUE was recommended for this assignment due to our long-term working relationship with a number of farmer associations in Africa. UNIQUE supported SACAU in the formulation of its climate-smart agricultural program.
- Strengthen capacity building through a capacity needs assessment of the SACAU members.
- Facilitate on-the-job coaching.
- Support of the development of the climate-smart agricultural program and work plan.
- Disseminate the concept within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
- Disseminate the concept within the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
