Forest Carbon Monitoring Tool

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is worldwide the most recognized forest certification scheme with over 180 million ha of forests certified. The FSC’s strategic framework for climate change recognizes carbon sequestration as an important environmental value that needs to be maintained, measured and reported. The FSC thus seeks to provide its certificate holders with a practical and cost-effective carbon monitoring tool that uses data from existing forest information systems. Based on our broad forest management and carbon accounting expertise, UNIQUE forestry and land use was contracted to design a modular carbon monitoring tool that considers all FSC-certified forest types, climate regions and project scales.
