Assessment and Monitoring Approaches for Resilience to Drought

The UNCCD 2018-2030 Strategic Framework identified achieving Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) and mitigation of drought effects as the vision of the convention up to 2030. Its strategic objective 3 (SO3) is to “mitigate, adapt to, and manage the effects of drought in order to enhance resilience of vulnerable populations and eco-systems”. In this context, UNIQUE was selected to support the UNCCD Science-Policy Interface working on science-based evidence for recommended approaches to evaluate the resilience of vulnerable populations and ecosystems to drought. So far, no such systematic analysis or inventory of monitoring and assessment approaches has been undertaken in the context of drought. The output of this work will be presented to parties at the COP 15.
