In West Africa, effects of climate change like drought, heat, and flooding events are having severe impacts on agricultural productivity and the livelihoods of farmers and livestock herders. At the same time, unsustainable agricultural practices erode the natural resource base, making farmers and livestock herders even more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. ADA is a Luxemburg based non-governmental organization, which aims to foster the development of inclusive finance in developing countries. ADA commissioned UNIQUE to assess the current level of adoption of Climate-Smart and Agroecological Practices (CSAP) in Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Togo. The aim of the study is to identify barriers to adoption and provide recommendations to foster the use of CSAP through targeted pilot projects, with a special focus on inclusive finance.
- Conduct key informant interviews with a broad range of stakeholders at macro, meso and micro-levels
- Identify illustrative CSAP ‘success stories’, ‘failures’, and opportunities
- Derive lessons learned and provide guidance for fostering widespread adoption of CSAP
