Peru is a net importer of timber. The timber supply is mainly based on timber imports from Chile. A significant drop in sawn timber supply from Chile began in 2017 due to massive forest fires. This supply shortfall increased significantly from 2021 onwards due to the subsequent losses of pine plantations in Chile. The Arbaro Fund is considering an investment in a joint venture with the company Maderas Prosperidad Peru for the establishment and management of timber plantations and wood processing operations. Prosperidad developed an independent raw material supply based on regional timber sources, mainly coming out of the Cajamarca Region. Unique was commissioned to conduct a due diligence assessment, that included a study of the current situation of existing pine plantations as well as the availability of land suitable for plantation forest.
