The German development cooperation (GIZ) program “ProAmbiente” in Peru employs an integrated environmental approach that aims to mobilize the natural potential of the country. It advises the partner organizations in the implementation of environmental and forest governance and management systems. UNIQUE was assigned a feasibility mission to prepare the expansion of the ongoing program. The program expansion should financed an additional component, focusing at the improvement of the competitiveness of the forestry sector (e.g. optimization of the timber value chain, support of the forestry education and vocational training in the regions). The aim is to increase the contribution of the forestry sector to the national economy and to demonstrate that sustainable forest management is economically profitable.
- Feasibility mission in the region of Ucayali.
- Analysis of the wood products value chain and international trade flows.
- Analysis of relevant public and private sector actors based on key interviews.
- Elaboration of the program component proposal for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
