Non-Timber Forest Products Sector Study
In Peru, the use of non-timber forest products by private entrepreneurs or communities is subject to the payment of a fee as economic compensation to the State. The National Forest Service SERFOR (Servicio Nacional Forestal y de Fauna Silvestre) regulates the harvesting and use rights of non-timber forest products from natural forests. The current species and fees list of non-timber forest products had to be updated, and the German Development Agency (GIZ) commissioned UNIQUE to propose revisions to this tax scheme and develop an improved fee schedule for all currently used non-wood forest products. UNIQUE developed a standardized method for regularly updating the national list of species and fees.
- Coordination of field work.
- Updating the national list of non-timber forest products.
- Data collection regarding costs and revenues of main non-timber forest products.
- Development of a fee list for all non-timber forest products.
